I taught kindergarten for 16 years and was a district k-1 strategist for 2. I have a masters degree in curriculum and instruction from Dallas Baptist and a doctorate in early childhood studies with a minor in curriculum and instruction from the University of North Texas. I am currently working for Dallas ISD as a prek instructional specialist.
We are learning about moon this week. We read The Moon Book by Gail Gibbons. Then we made a web describing the moon and wrote facts about the moon. We also made a moon snack using procedural text. Our curriculum called for students to use picture (procedural) directions to create a product. My teammate came up with the great idea for having kids make moon cookies. She used chocolate chips instead of chocolate cheerios like I did. If I did it again. I might use both. The chocolate chips could be mountains and the Cheerios could be the craters. You can find other posts I have made about the moon here and here. The rebus cards for the moon cookies can be found here.
