What Will the Weather Be? and a Weather Freebie

We spent the week learning about and tracking the weather. Here are a few of the things we did. You can download the pictures and words for the sort and circle map from google docs here.

We read What Will the Weather Be? Then we made a circle map to show the different types of weather and weather words. I added pictures and words for the seasons to the freebie.

We talked about how we needed to dress for the weather and what that looked like in each kind of weather. We sorted clothing pictures into the weather categories they went with. I found this great easy to read nonfiction weather book from Scholastic Book Clubs.

We read Storm is Coming. Then we made a flow map to show the cause and effect relationships in the story. Our storm clouds came from a Cupcake for the Teacher. The unit includes a pattern, but I had my students create their own clouds.

This writing response sheet also came from the unit. We went outside and laid down on the ground and looked up into the sky. We talked about what we could see right then as well as other things we had seen in the sky before.

Scholastic has these great nonfiction books about weather. They are perfect for little ones. You can purchase them separately and in small sets from Scholastic Book Clubs.

We ran out of time before we got to my last lesson with Harry by the Sea and how to keep cool when it is hot outside. I will share it next week along with the pattern freebie for it.

Thanks for sharing! We do weather in the spring, so these freebies will come in handy for then!

Thank you so much for the great freebie! Your ideas and literature connections are so helpful, even for a veteran teacher like me! :o)
