Over the years I have learned that anything to do with animals makes the learning so much more fun to my kiddos and this game is no exception. My students were off their bottoms and cheering as soon as I held up the box and they saw the animals. We sat in a tight circle around the zoo game board and took turns placing the animals into their zoo homes. Students chose animals, told me the sound the animal's name starts with, and the letter that makes that sound. Then they located the letter on the zoo mat. The game made it easy to help those who struggled with the letters and sounds and the novelty of the animals kept those who already knew their letters and sounds engaged. This game would also be perfect for small group instruction as well as make working with the teacher a little more exciting.
I also liked how each animal had its own compartment. This allowed us to play the game in reverse when cleaning up and it would also make it easy for kids to see if they are missing a piece when they clean up on their own.
