The Night Before Valentine's Day

Today we read The Night Before Valentine's Day by Natasha Wing. I read the book up to the last page and then stopped and had my students make predictions about what they thought was in the box that the principal gave the students. The students drew pictures and wrote about their predictions. Then we read the last page of the book to see what the principal really gave the students.

oh I love that! I acutally did the same this this week, none of my pictures were that "interesting" though. My kids laughed and laughed at the principal in the cupid costume.

Seeing their predictions is great! Did you guys do a guided drawing of the box lids - thought those were pretty good!

While my students were on the carpet, I did a quick drawing showing my students they could make a box by drawing a large square and then a rectangle shaped lid. I have spent a lot of time modeling how to draw for my students. I do not have to spend that much time now because they have all gotten so good at using shapes to make things and adding details to their pictures.
