L M N O Peas

This nine weeks, the kindergartners in our district are writing stories over multiple pages. I found this book today at a book fair and thought it might inspire some story writing.

The book is New York Times Bestseller L M N O Peas by Keith Baker. The book highlights a variety of interests, hobbies, and careers.

After reading the book, go through all of the interests and careers named. Talk about any that the students are unsure about. Have students partner talk about some of their favorites and even those they would not want to do. Have them share why.. Have students vote on their favorite. Create a class graph and narrow the choices down to just a few. Then read more books about those interests and careers. When you think students are ready have them write a story about the one they choose.

This book also makes a great springboard for learning letter sounds, talking about community and careers, and for a study of ourselves and how we are all different and how our likes and interests are to be celebrated.

Here is an inside look...

and my favorite....

This is such a cute book! For our end of the year graduatio the kids write and draw a picture of what they want to be when they grow up. This book will be perfect for brainstorming ideas!
