More Joyful Learning in KC Posts

I posted yesterday that I could not stop reading Joyful Learning in KC. I am still working through all of her posts back to the beginning, but I wanted to post about a few of my favorite things I have found so far. Click on the links with each picture to go to the post and read more.

Sticky Dot Details....

This idea came from the book Marvelous Minilessons for Teaching Beginning Writing K-3 by Lori Jamison. The Sticky Dot Details mini lesson uses a sticky dot as an incentive to add details to a topic. Once the child tells you the detail you put the sticky dot on the back of their hand as a reminder during writing time to add a detail. When the child is writing they put the stick dot at the end of the sentence.

Writing Workshop Checklist....
This checklist is a way to keep track of where kids are at in the writing process. If you see that a good number of children are just drawing then you may need to focus your mini-lessons on writing words. etc. It also helps manage who gets to share each week. You can do a quick share of something you notice someone is doing that would help other kids too. This board helps the children think about what they plan on doing and also reminds them of the different things we are working on at writing time. The idea came from the book The Castle in Classroom.
