I already follow Kathleen on TpT and I am a new follower of her AWESOME blog! We are currently working on our penguin unit. Yesterday we read non fiction penguin books and Tacky the penguin books and compared. We wrote our comparisons on the belly of a penguin - Tacky stuff on a Tacky penguin and real stuff on a "real" penguin. I would love to add her unit to my growing file on penguins! :o)

I followed both Kathleen's blog and TPT store. I visit her blog almost daily anyway :)

My favorite penguin activity is a compare/contrast lesson used in conjunction with Tacky the Penguin. After reading the story, we compare and contrast Tacky to his companions using a bow tie Venn diagram (Tacky on one side, companions on the other and similarities in the middle). The kids think it is so cool. I got it from Lasting Lessons...can't remember which book. I also give the kids a story treasure to take home that contains two penguins I made from lima beans. One is just a plain penguin and the other has a bow tie. The note that goes with it asks parents to talk with their child about the story and the similarities and differences between Tacky and his companions.

I am a new follower to both Kathleen's TPT and blog. We are working on our penguin unit. The students have enjoyed learning about penguins. One of the activities we did was make a graph "Penguins can swim. Can you swim?" Students loved creating their own penguin and then putting it on the graph. We then used the graph to answer different questions. I would love to add her new Penguin activities to my penguin unit!!

I am a follower of Growing Kinders and Kathleen's TpT site. My favorite story to read is "Tacky the Penguin" to my kids. We like to compare how "Tacky" is to the other penguins. My kids are really interested in nonfiction books about penguins--they love learning new facts they can share with others.

When we get back to school on Tuesday, January 18, I plan to begin my penguin activities. I will read Tacky the Penguin books and use Discovery.com to look at real penguins. After completing penguin activities, we will make a penguin from an Oreo.

I'm a new follower here, TPT, and on Twitter! This past week we spent the week learning about "winter animals" and my kids are currently obsessed with singing Tacky's "How many fins does a fish have?" song. Too cute!
We read multiple non fiction books and identified and labeled the parts of a penguins body, text features, we read 5 Little Penguins, and wrote about facts we learned. We also had two of our literacy centers based around penguins, we had a penguin book where the sentences like, "Penguins ____ ___ swim." and the kids wrote "like to" they also had an art center with tracers to make a penguin and write a penguin story! They love penguins!

Just started following Kathleen's blog and TpT store. Loved her mystery person idea. :)
My penguin activity I like to do is over a few days watch "March of the Penguins" - the kids find it quite interesting and it has great information.
