I taught full-day kindergarten for 14 years and have spent the last 2 years as a kindergarten and first grade strategist working all over my district. I am excited to say that this school year I will be back in my own kindergarten classroom!! While I loved working with kinder and first grade teachers and their students, I missed having a class of my own.
I graduated from Dallas Baptist University in 2008 with a masters in curriculum and instruction. I am currently working on my doctorate in early childhood studies with a minor in curriculum and instruction at the University of North Texas. I hope to one day teach at the university level. I love what I do and want to pass on all that I have learned over the years to fellow teachers and students!
I LOVE the way you decorated your classroom! I was wondering where you got your mailbox from and how you made the stand? Also, how did you make the behavior system street light?
My mailbox started out green and is just one of those cheap ones from Walmart. My art teacher friend, Amanda, painted it for me and hot glued wooden shapes she bought from Michaels all down the stand. The mailbox stand and the traffic light were made by my dad. He did not use a pattern, he just made them up. The colored circles on the traffic light are magnetic circles I got from The Dollar Tree. They were in the school section. They are actually magnetic boards for hanging on the wall. I spray painted them red, yellow, and green. Then I nailed them to the board. I put magnets on the back of the kids names so they would stick.

I love your classroom. It's very warm and fun. I was wondering where did you get your giant alphabet.

I free handed the letters on posterboard and my art friend decorated each letter for me using scrapbook paper.
